IPL PhotoFacial

What is an IPL PhotoFacial?

The IPL Photofacial is a deeper corrective treatment that specifically treats most red & brown spots on the face, neck, arms, hands, back, legs or shoulders. IPL is also great for reducing hyper-pigmentation, freckles, cafe au lait macules, liver spots, birthmarks, port wine stains, rosacea, and broken capillaries for allover clear skin.
IPL means Intense Pulsed Light, so by using essentially a super bright flashing beam of energy, the desired treatment area is targeted to essentially break up dark pigmentation and cauterize red vessels. This process of applying IPL is relatively easy with little to no downtime.
We use Cutera Limelight technology, which is one of the top technologies on the market. With us your treatment is targeted for effectiveness and safety.

Who is the ideal candidate for IPL?

The ideal candidate for IPL is those with fair to medium skin tones. Because IPL targets pigment, those with dark tanned skin or darker skin tones are advised not to treat with IPL. as the area treated may get worse instead of better. In these cases, we suggest treating with other safe and effective alternative for all skin colors.
IPL is recommended as a 3-part treatment series for best results. Depending on what’s being treated and the severity, some may need 6 sessions till ideal results are achieved.

Does IPL hurt?

The treatment has a no to low level of discomfort described by most clients as a warm sensation. No numbing is required for this treatment; however, it is sometimes provided for certain treatment areas. Post treatment you may feel like a slight sunburn has developed.

Is there downtime?

This type of treatment doesn’t really have any downtime. Some people may experience mild inflammation and pinkness which could last about 1-3 days. The pigmented area may become darker, like a scab. Once this scab flakes off, new fresh skin is revealed.

Who should not get IPL?

Contraindications of IPL: Pregnant or nursing women. Those with an active infection at or near the desired treatment area. Those who have taken Accutane. You must be off Accutane for a minimum of 6 months before you schedule your appointment. Those with heart problems, cancer, history of seizures and immune system disorders. Those implanted with medical devices. Those with Herpes Simplex Virus 1, 2.

What is the aftercare?

We will ask that you continue to keep the treated area moisturized. Do not pick peel or scratch the treatment area. Let the area heal on its own. Apply SPF 30 or higher to the treated area if you are planning on being in the sun immediately after your treatment. We ask that you refrain from hot tubs, swimming pools, dips in the ocean or water sports until the skin’s surface has completely healed.
